| As the title says, what is yours?
As for me, a while ago I was writing a story and was thinking on names for the characters in it. I initially came up with "Valand", but this was abbreviated by people to "Val", resulting in "Val-and", while the name should have been read as "Va-land". I decided to add a consonant to prevent confusion, and thus it became "Van-land". Later on I realized both were also Dutch words, so that gave a meaning to the name as well. ("Van" = From & "land" = land). In other words: "From the land".
Recently I also started using the name Reyland. Since there are already a ton of Reylands out there, I added a simple AZ. Problem solved.
Trivia: * Valand is the name of my first Aion character, a Gladiator on Aion EU (Gameforge) * In the story I was writing, the name is used by a character named Herz Vanland.

| Mine's not quite as in depth.
My first toon on Aion was Avarice, and I've been using Zydin as a handle for almost as long as I've been gaming. So I decided to mash the two up, BAM, Avazy. It doesn't have the same flair as Zyrice, but it will do.

| It is interesting to me that my name is abbreviated Ion as the actual pronunciation of the full name is Yawn-toe. It was ironic that people choose to abbreviate my name in this fashion as the game itself is Aion. To me, Aion should be pronounced Ae-on but its actually Eye-on. I am a big fan of the sciences as well so Ion works fine for me. For these reasons Ionto suits me well.
Ianto was my favorite character in the Doctor Who spin off series Torchwood. However Ianto was taken so I picked a close second Ionto. The name has grown on me.
Being a gay man with an affinity towards fantasy novels, it isn't easy to find relatable literature of note or worth. Even so, in my younger years I stumbled upon one such trilogy of suitable character. The plot centers around an abused individual with a love of music. He soon finds he has a gift for magic and a soulmate, Tylendale. Tylendale later becomes a bard. As my alts character is a Songweaver, the name Tylendale was an obvious choice.

| I KNEW IT!!!! I KNEW YOU NAMED TYLENDALE FOR VANYEL'S BF!!!!! (my favourite trilogy by Lackey, if you were wondering... read it 10 times, still makes me tear up) But how come we never see Tylendale????? I named Thargor for Orlando's barbarian warrior avatar in Otherworld, a sci-fi series by Tad Williams. Hrathen is a warrior-priest from Brandon Sanderson's Elantris, a sort of anti-hero who is easily the most badass character in the book ^^. Yeah, no imagination here .... Hm, if you liked the Magic's XXX trilogy, I'll have a think to see if I can suggest some other books ... when it comes to sci-fi and fantasy, if it's good I've read it. (Asphodia's the one to ask for anime/manga btw) | |

| Thar, I love Mercedes Lackey. I don't play as Tylendale often as my main is well known throughout all of Elysea and the social aspect of Aion is the biggest reason I play. I must admit, I am somewhat shocked you have read the series. I thought it to be somewhat obscure because of the content. Regarding Otherworld, I haven't heard of it. But Elantris sounds like an interesting read.
Yes Asphodia sure does know anime. I used to be a big nerd about anime. Every Sunday, friends of mine would get together and watch it. Anime Sundays consisted of dinner, anime, discussion and games. Used to be fun but my schedule stopped allowing for it.

When I think of your name, for some reason I would pronounce it I-on-tou (chinese pinyin version). As for the book that you've read I never read it so unfortunately I can't relate (fantasy is not my thing, I prefer mystery and thrillers, I love Dan Brown and James Patterson!). BUT OH MAI DOCTOR WHO. I never watch Torchwood (sorry! D:) BUT THE DOCTORRRRRRRRR........I'M WAITING FOR THE NEW SEASON (gah, I swear my friend made me crazy >w<). As for my name, I really wanted the name Sanctus (because of its root meaning) but it was taken. I tried many names and I decided since my faction is Elyos I would start off the beginning with Elyos. I figured that sis would fit after Ely and I wanted to name my character Elysis (e-lie-sis) and it sounded nice on my tongue, but it was taken! So I ended up with sus and thus Elysus (I pronounce it e-lie-sus). Yeah and that's it. :u

| The Chinese version is pretty wicked too Elysus. /Approved. Also, when I think of your name, I am reminded of ancient Rome. Ely-Elysea, sus-meaning from/of/originating from in a family lineage (although generally implying masculinity, hey we are a progressive society). Therefore, in ancient Rome, Elysus would be interpreted Child of Elysea. A name worthy of note and prestige. Such a name in ancient Rome would imply status and perhaps leadership. | |

Which is rather appropriate, as Aion also maintains numerous references to ancient Rome: legionary, centurion, legatus, tribunus, praetor etc.

Interesting, I seem to pronounce pretty much everyone's name different to how they do ... If we ever do get a teamspeak going I'm sure it'll be interesting to hear everyone

| Well, well let's see.... (You'll probably laugh at this lol)
When Aion NA went f2p and the private server where I was playing before closed...I didn't really want to play anymore but after a month or two I gave up and tried the game again.I made an Assassin on Siel and named her Leyline (because I only play characters with hide/heal buh). I enjoyed playing with her and I loved her to pieces.Since I kinda like writing fanfics for my characters,I began thinking about some kind of story for her to write about(which later never happened). In the story,Leyline met with an asmodian Assassin named Azel and yeah they fell in love, you know the usual forbidden love story. I named their daughter Nobelie. I don't really remember how it came I was just thinking about names(I'm bad with them orz),it popped out and I liked it so I kept it. xD When Leyline hit 51,I stopped playing for a while then came back and made my Cleric babbu. :> All the names that I wanted were taken so after a bit of smacking my brain to get it to spit out a name,I suddenly remembered that I had this 'Nobelie' lying around, unused. And yeah that's the dramatic story of my in-game name and username too. xD I used Nobelie here too so you guys don't have to memorize another name. :'3

I named their daughter Nobelie. So, in a way, you're half Elyos, half Asmodian As for me, well let's see. When I was in middle school I used to read a comic about five girls who were the guardians of a mystic, magic place. At some point in the story they meet with one of the previous guardians, Cassidy. I fell in love with the name in an instant and it just came to my mind when I was making my SM so I adapted it (since all good names are already taken in their original form -.-") And Lyarrah (Lee-a-ra) is a combination of Ly (Ly = "wolf" in elvish) and Ara, which is the prefix of my first character on EU. It is also another version of Liara, the name of my favorite character from Mass Effect Biiska is... Biska from Fairy Tail (somebody stop me from making alts T_T)

| My history is deep. It was a dark night, I heard wild animals everywhere around me, I was really desperate to find something, something that could really, really save me from the darkness slowly swallowing everything. But even after hamsters and moths stopped making random sounds and I put the lights on I still couldn't find any nice nick for my cupcake character and then I tried mixing words and I realised word Charismatic sort of has my name in it (Mati, in Polish, sorta), but it was taken so I thought well it's english server, Matt seems more appropriate so I short-cut it and hence Charismat. Chair.
I wanted my beloved nick Donna or Hazi but both were taken, the second one to my biggest dread.

| Erm...well I don't have much of a history with the username Smurf, but I'm excited about playing a gunslinger class and starting fresh. However, my first character in Aion is a lvl 65 cleric named Marubox, which does have a bit of a background regarding the name. A few years back I started playing a game called Pockie Ninja, which is based on a few different anime shows. I was in college at the time and happened to be staring at (surprise, surprise! ) a bag of ramen noodles. I figured lots of protagonists in animes enjoyed eating ramen, so I decided to use the brand of the noodles, Maruchan. The name has since grown on me and just about all my IGNs are now related to Maru. Maru is also the name of a kitty that tries to jump in boxes, hence Marubox. Feel free to call me Maru or Smurf, I'll respond to either. I bring up my Marubox character because I'm rather limited in how I can help out on Smurf due to my low lvl atm. I'll use both characters to help the legion out as I can. |

| My nick was born the first time I played Lineage II: the server was so big that I kept getting "name already in use" errors over and over again; but I didn't give in into typing random letters for the stress like some do (never seen a iijijijoj running around in a virtual world? =).
So I started to spin around letters to find a combination that sounded nice to my hear. I settled with Ethrajan and since then I've never seen that stupid "name taken" message again for my main. Feel free to call me Eth, I like the sound of it as well :3

| So...DonPaco, where did that come from?!?!?!
From one crazy night at Lanzarote with a friend of mine! Me and a friend went on vacation to lanzarote when we decided to have a "orientation" evening. Not that much booz..., go home early... , thats what we agreed....BEFORE.
But when we finally arrived at the place, and started that orientation evening, Mr Bacardi, Mr Tequila sunrise and Mr shot joined the evening. They made it one crazy evening haha.
So the name? Well on our trip back to the appartment (which was called Don Paco Castillas) we were discussing with the taxidriver. Making him crazy actually telling him we were THE DONS from castillas. Out of nowhere, within that discussion, my name was suddenly DonPaco and that friend of mine was called DonSimon. Eversince, our names kept being Don or Paco (simon for him) on short. And because we were calling eachother that way, and we still kinda got a big mouth, everyone started calling us Don. But still, the full nickname is DonPaco and with the story behind it, i still like the name.

| * Well my nickname in all games that I played was Taurus and yes I like it. The story last for over 15 years now. My friends were always called me "taur" wich in romanien language means "bull" cuz of my athletic stature and cuz I always was involved in sport. But ingame I couldn't use Bull cuz kinda ... tralalala and has no "magic", nothing to suites me. So when I start the online gaming like a new rookie I said that I have to own a good name who represents me. So I just added "us" after a few choises so the results was Taurus wich is a zodiacal sign (I am Capricorn btw) and kinda stands for me.
My "hall of fame" for all time games was and will be FarCry. I use the nickname Taurus since than and I was playing this game from 2004 when came out till 2010 and I was very good at it, but I was playing for so long that I coudn't find any challanges left for me. I knew everything there's to know about this game owning almost every player on servers in 1v1, I did so many matches and funwars wich I can't keep the count, and that was my best gaming experince since I joined online gaming. Offcourse I was in a clan also, the first was TAW wich stands for "The Art of Warfare", second clan and the closest to my heart was C2A, Call-to-Arms, wich is an oline gaming community like the first clan. Very good players and mates. After awhile the Elite players left the clans and FC and moved to Crysis, TeamFortress or PerfectWorld. Servers left were full of cheaters, noobs and lammers. The fun finally died ... slowly ... and that was the end for me with FC ... was the sadest period of my life regarding online gaming.
But looking at the word itself "Taur" (Bull) the meaning of it kinda says everything. The Bull (not animation Ferdinand god dam it xD) by it's stature is a massive animal who doesn't fear anything. Just standing face to face with this beast gives you creeps and yes you will sence fear trust me. Anyway ... when I joined Aion, the "Taurus" was already taken so I took Taullus wich is close to the original name.

I use also use Okisedan: it's the inverted form of Nadesiko

| Copy pasted to the right thread: Reason I made this thread is because my toon name(Ender) is hard to figure out how to spell. So first off, Ryuuchan. Reason for this is because I like dragons. Ryuu in Japanese means dragon. Secondly, EnderWigginIII. For those who read the sci-fi novel, Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card, Ender Wiggin is the main character of the book. 'III' in my name, is three uppercase 'i'. It's supposed to be read as Ender Wiggin the Third. The reason I named it as such is not because Ender Wiggin is my toon's grand father and I was the third Ender Wiggin, It's because in the novel, Ender Wiggin was a "third child". He lived in a society where population is controlled, his parents were allowed to have a third child with the permission of the 'government'. Thus, He was dubbed "a third", which is, I suppose, a derogatory term. Also, Ender Wiggin happens to be the commander of "Dragon Army". I like dragons. | |
